IVF: UK government backs mitochondrial transfer

Mitochondrial transfer procedure could prevent mothers passing on devastating genetic conditions to their children

The government is to push ahead with plans that would allow doctors to prevent major childhood diseases by creating IVF babies that have genetic material from three people.

Can a trans woman be a donor? I wonder since trans women don't have eggs, but we have mitochondria, right?

Probably a long way off, but I think we will see reproductive options for trans women, even where we can carry the baby in the not too distant future.

I probably wouldn't opt for this procedure but it would go a long way to debunk the myth that we are not "real women" because we darned well are.
