I am starting hrt next month and I just want to know what to expect. My body is pretty sensitive to DHT (or at least that's what my dad says, he's in the medical industry). Will I still have problems with DHT once I start hrt with estrogen? I want my chest hair to go away!! I have to shave it every day just like a beard, and I don't want to have the risk of being able to bald since that runs on my moms side of the family. I am only 19 so I am young still, but do you think I'll end up needing a t blocker or something for dht like dutasteride? Are there any risks with dutasteride?

Thank you!

Well dutasteride and finastride are normally used to reduce the size of the prostate with people with enlarged prostates. I can only really comment on Finastride but some people experience issues such as lowered libido, difficulties with erections, problems ejaculating, gynecomastia, depression, impotence etc...  But I think these are a minority of men that experience this at the small 1mg dosage. When i say minority, I mean a tiny fraction of the people that use this medication.

Read this:

I take finastride daily - not for very long just since November/October last year.  I havent seen any issues with it yet.  My bald spot hasnt gotten worse i think,  and I am not sure how much effect it is having.  i think it has stopped me losing hair!  I HOPE.

I had gynecomastia before going on to fin, it has gotten a bit bigger (my boobs), not much though Im prob just an A cup or something.  I don't think my colleagues notice it,  if they have they havent said anything. I am not sure if there is any correlation between my gynecomastia getting bigger and taking finastride since I had huge levels of prolactin in my blood prior to starting finastride.

Im sure if you take Dutasteride under the supervision of an endo you will have nothing to worry about.

I just read this info which is a paid ad on Yahoo regarding DHT. Its about eating and combining supplements to naturally reduce DHT and it was more balding men and women and how DHT is the culprit and how quickly it changes hair growth. I have just bought the download for $39 for a friend but will read it myself. I can let you know in 4 weeks how he thinks it works.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

right firstly the im no doctor or expert.
im on finastride as part of my meds. for me it i have got less facial hair and i have new fine hair growing on my fore head. it takes a fair amount of time to have an effect. my doc said it does inhibit dht fairly well which is why i had it added to keep my levels down as certain effects of testosterone were still a problem. when you go on hrt an antiandrogen is included as part of the meds, pretty pointless without it. you can do it the other way and just have an antiandrogen but the femanising effects are small and theres health risks over time.the whole hrt thing is suck it and see to begin with the doc will adjuts it as they monitor your hormone levels and effect  things like body hair loss dont happen overnight. your doc is the one to listen to,they do it for a living. also remember we all react to hrt in different ways so what dose works for one may be a failure for others.
oh i did find a medical study that stated  the effective dose for dropping dht levels, above that had no improvement, the higher dose was for prostrate treatment. the hair loss clinics i believe only prescribe .

Please don't list your dosages as it violates TOS 8

8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:

    A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
    B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctors supervision is prohibited.
    C. The discussion of recommended or actual dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.
