There's been a buzz about uk voter registration not really being trans friendly and the need to show proof of name change when registering, I'd not been able to find any advice on what to do if you hold a gender recognition certificate. I emailed the GRP in Leicester and got this reply.

QuoteCabinet Office advises that if an individual holds a Gender Recognition Certificate, providing previous name information is not necessary to apply to register because it will not be used to verify information in relation to that person.  The Electoral Registration Officer has discretion to ask for further information if necessary to determine the application, for example a current passport or UK photo driving licence.

Cabinet Office officials will be looking at the future approach to the provision of previous names in relation to electoral registration and will take feedback, including from the transgender community, into account in developing future policy. If you wish to provide feedback or have further queries on online voter registration please email ierservice@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk

Obvs this isn't much help if you don't have a GRC, but there is still an opportunity to help shape uk policy regarding this.
