Hi, I hope posting in the right place.

I have long curly hair, and even if in some point I like it, I wish I could cut it. My dad doesn't let me do it (kinda "my house, my rules" thing) and the hairdresser said I cant have short hair because the curls.

Theres any way to stop looking girly and still dont cut my hair?

(Again, sorry for any mistake with the english, still doubting if I wrote right hairdresser)

Hi just saw your post now.  Sometimes when you post on the weekends they can be missed.  Sorry. [emoji17]

I'm mtf but I had very curly hair and it's still problematic.  I can't grow it long without it going through a long "bozo the clown" phase.

Maybe a hair straightener would get the curls out and allow you to pull it back in a ponytail.

Good luck!

I wish I had the stuff to worry about. That's where I am on this whole topic!

Vanny, I get that, too.  My hair on the sides is very thick, but the top?  Not so much.  Hair restoration is in my future!

I've had several friends with curly hair and very short hair cuts. It actually looked good. Considering my strong distaste of short hair, that is saying something.

My Dad was quite the opposite, Cut i off until about age 14. I haven't cut it since except once about 5 years ago. I regret it.

Hey there,

so do I understand correctly -- you would like a more masculine look with curly hair and your dad doesn't allow for you to get it cut? Have you tried to google something like "medium length men's hairstyle curly". If you're able to go short I think an undercut type of style where it's short on the sides and you have a mop of curly hair on top could look very cool!

Sorry for saying this, but then why do you feel you have to comment here? All of our problems are different, but that doesn't mean one type of problem is less "legitimate" than another. To tell someone "I wish I had your problems" is very hurtful and disregards the way they feel about it. The pain we feel about some things are very subjective, but that doesn't mean the pain or discomfort isn't valid. So if you don't have something to answer to the OPs initial question, why do you have to go out of your way to hurt their feelings? I seriously don't get it.

Sorry that I didn't answer you before  :(. I agree with getting an undercut, they look great, although I may be a tad biased as I have one  :D. You could try using hair straighteners, lots of guys use them now so it's no longer a 'girl' thing to do. Having straighter hair may make you look more masculine. You could also use a hair product like matt clay to 'grunge' it up a bit. I did that and it makes your hair look less well kept and more like how a guy's hair would look if he grew it long. I hope I helped. Btw,  hairdresser is correct  :)

Just because I decided to ask for help with my hair doesn't mean I have no important more problems. Sorry if that bother some poeple, dont want to start a fight or anything. (yeah, one of my problems is say sorry all the time)

Hey, you didn't do anything wrong, so no need to apologize! [emoji4]

Let us know how it goes with the haircut. Hair can be a really bad source of dysphoria, so it's good to look for a cut you like!

No need to apologise,  sometimes it can take us a bit long to reply back though  :(. I hope your dad lets you get the undercut,  getting mine done was a great boost to my confidence and lessening of dysphoria as it's such a masculine haircut. My dad though did make the odd snide comment about it, so remember to not let that get to you if your dad does the same thing. Oh yeah, definitely post a pic if you get it done if you can and tell us how it goes  :)

Kalex, an undercut always works, and IMO, they look better when your hair is curly. If you do want to go an undercut, you can probably slide past your father by telling him it's a 'pixie cut'.

uploading this, my dad just told me that he'll let me cut my hair BUT the haircut must be long enough for a girl. So maybe it will a few inches less than now. Is a start I think.
