Gender Odyssey 2007
Seattle WA.

Aug 31 through Sept 3rd

Washington State Convention & Trade Center

http://www.genderodyssey.com/

2007 marks Gender Odyssey's 5th conference serving the transgender community and we are going stronger than ever!

Gender Odyssey's programming is focused on the needs and interests of transmen, genderqueers, FTMs, and other gender-variant people. We are proud to be the only long-standing national conference with a transmasculine emphasis.

Gender Odyssey is open to ALL. We embrace the presence and participation of our families, partners and allies. It is a place for us and those we love to gather together, share our lives, and learn from one another. It is also a great place for those who serve this community to expand their knowledge and understanding of transgender and FTM issues.

I'm so excited about this. :D I didn't make it last year because of how much it cost; I didn't know there were scholerships until it was too late.

Gender Odyssey - Family

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A New Family Conference within Gender Odyssey
We are pleased to announce a new family conference for parents of gender variant and transgender children!
Join us in Seattle during the 2007 Labor Day weekend as we debut the first family-centered conference* for people raising gender variant and transgender kids and teens.

*This conference is held in conjunction with the five-year running Gender Odyssey conference.

Why a family-centered conference?
Many families are grappling with how to best support their gender variant or transgender child or teen. In order to assist families and meet this need for information and support, we have created a family-focused conference within Gender Odyssey.

We will have workshops addressing the unique issues parents encounter, as well as programming for kids and teens. Our children need support, understanding, and tools for navigating safely through the day-to-day realities of our society. We will also provide opportunities for our kids to connect with each other so they truly understand that they are not alone.

Our programming schedule will be designed to optimize a family's experience. Older kids and teens will have their own workshops at the same time as the parent-related sessions, while the younger children have fun, supervised playtime activities. All family programming will be held in rooms that have close proximity to each other. Family liaisons will be available prior to and during the conference to assist in any way needed.

What to expect...
Amazing presentations, panel discussions and interactive forums where parents can explore the issues related to raising children who do not fit into society's current expectations of gender.
Friday evening Family Reception at the Silver Cloud Hotel
Excellent childcare for gender variant kids and their siblings to play together while parents attend workshops.
Two picnic lunches for families to meet, socialize, and share experiences.
Workshops for teens and older children throughout the weekend.

My wife and I will be attending this year again - 2006 was our first year, and marked the real birth of my transition as it became the focal point for my wifes change of heart about things.

I look forward to going again this year and seeing the differences.  If you're looking for me, check out the vendors area for Family Pride - we'll be the ones with the sharp pretty things...   ;)

I'm heading to GO again, had a blast last year.  I'll be on a panel for the family conference  this yr - looking forward to engaging with the parents/family members.

Hope to see others at GO as well.

I was SO going to go this year (it's only a half hour from my apartment) but my parents fell through and they were going to pay the fees...

If anyone needs a place to stay, this year or next year, my couch is free. :)

I'm  sure they would let you register late. you just pay a little extra for that.
A note for next year,  scholarships are usually available for many conference. and events like this would not function without volunteer help. so keep an eye out for those opportunities.
