What are the odds I won't be able to grow facial hair on T?

I'm still pre-t, but growing facial hair is something that is very important to me. I've always wanted a beard, but I know that even not all cis guys could grow one. All the men in my family could grow one, so does this mean that I will be able to too? Even if I can't grow a beard, I just want some facial hair at the very least.

It worries me a lot when I hear that some trans men can't even grow facial hair at all, but is that common? Also, if all the men in my family are hairy, is there a little to no chance that I won't be hairy as well? If it's due to genetics, I don't have any reason to be worried.

If the men in your family are hairy, the chances are good that you will be, too. Just keep in mind that facial hair can be one of the slowest things to develop during male puberty -- it can take six years, or even longer, for a beard to grow in, even if you have the genes for it.

My doctor told me to look at my moms side of the family when I was starting T if I wanted to know if I possibly would grow facial hair or not since everyone inherits the "hair" genes from their mom. But if you have brothers with facial hair I'd say it's highly likely that you will get it too if you all have the same mom.

And I don't think it's more common for trans guys not to be able to grow facial hair. The diversity seems to be the same as with bio males. I know a bunch of trans dudes personally and all of them have facial hair. The only difference seems to have been how fast we all got it when we have talked about it. Some took longer than others some got it really fast.

Facial hair is super important to me too. My main goal right now is to develop facial hair. I look at Jefff's beard board a lot and I've been reading a lot about minoxidil but, weither i try it or not is a different story. It can be pretty dangerous and really irritate your skin among other things. I would only use it as a last resort tbh.

But as Tysilio said, If the men in your family are hairy then chances are you're going to be as well! Don't get down about it! You'll get there. My brother can grow a pretty full beard with little to no exercise or even eating healthily. My father however only had a patchy beard but his genes were on the pretty hairless side.

I'm 10 months on testosterone and I've got this going for me: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B9u_qWDCYAMOJ9M.jpg pay no attention to the face im making. I didn't expect to see this much and to show it to anyone!

That's only 10 months and a lot of guys go through like...hair growth spurts once 12 months rolls around! I've got a lot of long vellus hair covering my whole face so I'm really hoping it matures into a beard!!

Here's a good blog for you http://loadingoliver.tumblr.com/
This guy's facial hair didn't really pop up unti 400+ days on testosterone and this guy has the fullest beard ive ever seen on a trans guy! He also has a blog for his 13+ month minoxidil usage here http://loadingbeard.tumblr.com/ but be careful if you ever decide to use it!!! Oliver here started using it when he was 2 years on Testosterone and still did substantial research on it!

But I believe in you. You know what you want and I believe you can will that beard right outta you!
I've found you, Beast!

That thing Oliver took only accelerated what his genes were going to give anyways. The body will grow only what's allowed regardless of what you take. But seeing as your family has beards, you'll probably get some facial hair. Some people have given up facial hair to keep the hair on their heads as DHT is responsible for beard growth and alopecia.

I think your chances are good.

I will say that just because your male family members have good beard growth doesn't necessarily mean that you will.  There are a lot of factors to consider other than genetics.  My facial hair is just starting to climb up my cheeks and is still wispy in the sideburn/cheeks area and I'm 3 years on T.  That being said, I have a great beard under the neck - it just takes time before you can really tell what the outcome will be.

I suppose the gist is - wait and see.

Thanks, and hopefully I'll get that beard one day--you too.

Also, for 10 months on T, I think that's a good amount of facial hair.
