What bathroom do you take your little ones to?

Sounds silly but not every place has a family area, and as a MTF with a nephew today was interesting.

This afternoon I was helping my sister look after her 4 year old, in the hospital (he fractured his wrist, earlier in the week and was complaing about it being sore). While we where waiting to be seen, she asked me to take him to the bathroom while she was busy with other work.

Freak out for me. For a childrens hospital the waiting area has no parents room. I've been using the correct bathrooms for months now, and besides the fact I was wearing a skirt today I doubt I could go into the guys if I tried.

I ended up pushing open the door for him and standing guard outside. Parents, grandparents, assorted relatives what do you do when you have to take little ones to the bathroom. I'm close to my sister and nephew and if this comes up again I would like to know what to do.

I think you made the right call.  Being 4 he's young enough to be brought into the women's room with you.  Most importantly, I say good for you for being such a wonderful aunt!

Preschoolers, take with you to the ladies. From about 6 or 7 years to 11ish, let them use the rest room they belong in but stand out side the door. You can ask for someone to check on them if they are in too long.

Yes he is 4, but he has started kindergarten and we do have school uniforms.

So take him with me when he is out of his school uniform. Stand outside the door when he has he's uniform on?

I have 3 four year olds. I haven't taken them to the bathroom since I started using the ladies pretty much exclusively (except at work and their school where I am not out yet).  However I will take them to the ladies. The only risk is if they call me daddy. I'm dreading the scene from transparent.

I took my kids into the female restroom when they were small. I think people will pay less attention to you with the children.
