For a lot of us, losing weight before or during our transition has been very important. For some, it has been about watching our diet, for others it has been increased exercise, for some it has been working out in the gym. For me, I have decided to go with a personal trainer, and was wondering whether anyone else has gotten a personal trainer, and if so, did you mention to them the REAL purpose of your desire to lose weight or tone your body?

I will also add, that I am still presenting as male, and have not mentioned anything yet about being on or about to be on hormones...as she did ask whether I was taking any medications.

I used the free sessions at my work gym but I never really paid after that. All I said is that I have medical conditions I need to manage with exercise, which is true. But in reality I had high blood pressure and I do have diabetes type 2 so I need to work out.

I'm not sure why you'd say anything. I know I wouldn't.

I don't think there would be any medical risk or your doctor would have told you about it, and even of there was there's little chance that a personal trainer would know anything about it.

I told my trainer that I'm only interested in losing weight and not building muscle, at least not until I lose 100 lbs.  I figure by then, I'll either be done with him or I'll have come out to him.

The last time I had personal training sessions ongoing I never really had to tell him a reason. It's really none of their business. They'll ask your goals maybe but not your reason.

I believe the reason why they ask is so if something happens during a session, such as an injury for example, they cannot be held to blame. Certain medications can increase blood pressure, and if you are doing something that increases blood pressure as well, there could be health risks associated to it. Also, a lot of personal trainers run their own business, and the way they get new business is by results. If you are trying to lose weight, then start taking a medication that has the potential to increase weight (ie estrogen), the trainer may not get the results they were hoping for to further their business, and realistically, would anyone want to start a business activity that they know has no chance of success?

I don't seem to be really gaining or losing weight. I hover between 175 and 180 lbs and have been that way for years; well before HRT.
