Lawyers attack credibility of IRS witness in sex-change case

Karen Loewy, a lawyer for the Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders representing O'Donnabhain, said there is medical consensus that gender identity disorder is a "legitimate serious medical condition."

IRS lawyers were unavailable for comment after the court session.

LIT, you beat me to this one, as usual.  Although I'm a bit uneasy with the whole LGBT alliance sometimes, I'm really glad it's intact right now.  If insurance will not cover SRS then this is the best chance of getting help to some who really need it.  Forcing the IRS to consider this a legitimate tax deduction would, in essence, be like getting government assistance.  I also think it would be a short step then for insurance companies to be required to cover SRS.  To say that this is a crucial case would be a gross understatement.

This happens every coupple of years. <when I was an official tax accountant> GRS was considered deductable...  then they changed it back to non deductable... This is going to be a never ending battle till it hits the supreme court....

Really it should be pointed out that if GRS were not available there would be allot more suicides....  And point out to the incompitent IRS people that "Dead people dont pay taxes"

Actually the term is reducing comorbidity, which studies shows occurs when trans individuals have access to proper medical treatment including SRS.
