Synthetic Wig Maintenance

I wear a Magic Touch wig that I replace about every 4 weeks. The wig that I buy is around $40.

My question is that I think that it becomes greasy after about 1-2 weeks, probably from me running my fingers through it to untangle or just set it right.

Do any of you wash your synthetic wigs that would fall under this variety(Magic Touch or less the $100)? I know natural hair wigs take leave-in conditioner, but am not sure if that is a bad idea for my synth wig?

I have definitely gotten better at wig maintenance over the last months. Making sure to detangle from the back part of the scalp first, on the inner half If that area goes, then it becomes an unmanageable mess.

I wash with a wig shampoo, not too often though. Then a tiny bit of spray on wig conditioner/detangler, not too much just a little spritz does it. This helps some. The tangle problem is a big problem though and not something I've yet really resolved.

Brush every day. Wash every week, or more if doing sweaty activities. Mine are microfibre (synthetic) and take conditioner. Mine are Henry Margu and not prohibitively expensive (ahout $150) and last for (so far) at least a year of near continuous wear.

Wow...they last a year! Do you wear them all day?? That's incredible. What kind of conditioner are you using?

Well, not all synthetic wigs are made equal... the cheaper they are the greater the likelihood they'll self destruct sooner.

I use a shampoo & conditioner made by a local Australian company - Wig Affair (wigaffair.com.au), I just buy it from a wig shop.

I use a synthetic wig that cost about US$125. It has lasted me a year and a half and is probably no more than halfway through its life. I wash it periodically using washing instructions given to me by the lady that sold it.

Generally speaking, you do get what you pay for. Less expensive wigs tend to friz a lot faster, but they all will. Mine run in the $100 to $150 US range and last a long time with part time wear. It is best to buy two if you're full time. One to wear and the other to wash. Plus you likely don't have the luxury of changing your style on a regular basis.

I use a commercial wig shampoo. Harsh detergents will suck the esters out of the plastic and back to friz city. I never condition. Perhaps that why you think yours is greasy? I use a squirt on wig conditioner to help with detanglng. On some wig sites there is a lot of using a really good , no fragrance, no anything, laundry softener for tangles
