Inkscape anyone?

I'm not sure if there is a topic on this, but I was wondering if there is anyone that uses Inkscape.
Seeing how I have a lot of time on my hands I was going to see if I could learn how to draw with it.
I would like to know if anyone knows how to use the tools and all.

I gave it a try, its fun to use.

You can draw pretty cards, for example invitations, inspirational cards or cards for easter or christmas ...
used to draw some by hand, but you have to be careful, if you slip up it shows.
If you draw them by computer all of them look pretty and the same .

There are tutorials out there, and there is a help function...
if you use gimp it shouldn't be too difficult... otherwise well it might take a few moments to get used to
maybe there are even a few vids on youtube, explaining a few things...

I installed Inkscape and used it for awhile a few years ago for some reason I had at the moment. The main advantage of it is that it's an open source vector graphic program, which means graphics can be enlarged without pixelization. It's basically similar to CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator, which are both vector programs.

For drawing, as with your mouse or a Wacom pen or something, you're better off with a bitmap program, though. This includes programs like Photoshop, Gimp or Paint.NET for instance. Inkscape isn't the only free vector program around, either. Lately I've been using the free OpenOffice Draw program, which has fewer features than Inkscape, but has other advantages. Inkscape pages can be saved as PDF files, but only one page per file. OO Draw can save multiple pages as PDF. I've been using it to lay out a little PDF magazine, but you can draw in it, too.

I have been using corel draw since 1999ish, mainly for graphic design in the signage industry.  I grew up with it and it is one of the best, if  not the best!

A few years back i joined a   company that only has linux OS, thus inkscape...
I hated every second of it, for a long time! But eventually got used to it... it is "ok" once you get used to it, but very uncomfortable to use if you have been used to    corel draw.
On the other hand, if you want open source software,  and not fork out the megga bux for corel, there is nothing wrong with using inkscape ;-)
