Working as a trans taxi driver, is it a good idea?
March 17, 2015, 06:15:42 AM
I am planning to leave my house to start a new fulltime life. I currently am a chef in our (my wife and me) restaurant. Since my wife does not accept me (because of her social reputation). The only choice for me to become fulltime is leaving her and start the journey.
I am very excite about my new life as a woman. However, there are not many choices for me to leave home and to get work. I am planning to become a taxi driver for the interim period because it is the easier way to get the job that doe not have to associate with co-worker. The passengers might be a bit surprised to learn (after getting in the cab) that their driver is a trans.
Regarding safety reason, I am in Thailand where is quite safe for TG even though discrimination is still.
Does anyone here is or know any trans who works as any kind of driver? Do you think if it is a trans-friendly profession?
Thanks for comments.
BR,
Jemina

I believe there is one member here who was driving with Uber but she passes very well. I would caution you that you should pass very well because violence is a real possibility and cab drivers are robbed all the time. You don't want to add being trans in the mix.
That said if you don't want to interact with customers how about IT work?

Yes, Kate. Interesting, IT is my plan for permanent job or business. Before I get sufficient online customers(planning to sell wigs and TG dressing online), I would need a part time job to pay my bills.
Thank you.

And why not a chef?
No other food industry there?
Just saying.

Here in the US there are other driving jobs available...bus driver, paratransit (think hospitals, patients in wheelchairs, etc), warehouse driver, etc. Maybe Thailand has these or similar...?
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...
