So, my paypal account was in a negative balance (my own fault no foul play) and I got an email telling me to call this number for more information. I called the paypal number and this guy (sounded cute! :P ::)) answered and was asking for my paypal info, so I gave it to him..

then I had to tell him my old name (which is what my paypal is still under) and he immediately got super defensive and said, "I need to speak with the actual account holder." And I said I am the owner of the account!

Then he said "Well, you're obviously not male, and this seems very suspicious of you." I didn't help the suspicion part by being super clumsy with the delivery of my information... but still.. I told him he was right and that I'm not male.. lol!

And I even told him I'm transsexual! lol! But he still wouldn't continue the call.. he did transfer me to someone else who helped me much more readily after I gave him some extra info.. haha!

That was just a weird and annoying and gratifying experience! :D

Sorry for the parenthetical attack!

I would find it refreshing to be gendered female on the phone.

This happens to me a lot actually, because I never use my male voice anymore, and I don't think I could sound exactly like I used to even if I wanted to. I usually just have to explain to people that I am transgender when I have to do business on the phone, and so far they've always been understanding. It can be fun at first, and it seems like a nice problem to have, but after a while it just becomes sort of frustrating to have to explain that you are transgender almost every time you need to do something on the phone. :-\ A lot of times, what will happen is that the person who I'm talking to will just ask if I am who I say I am, and then I'll say yes, and they won't make an issue of it. Some guys do sound a little girlish on the phone, so it's not unheard of, and they don't usually press the issue if I don't bring it up. Getting a legal name/gender change is definitely going to be a priority for me this year...

Wait till you deal with a bank. My voice has always been higher pitched over the phone.  Can I speak to Mr so and so please,  speaking.  Um no I said Mr I need to speak to him. Even being able to quote my security question and answer without prompting and my account number I would still have trouble convincing them I was me
