As a hobby I've been remaking an old game called Strife: The Quest for the Sigil. It was the last commercially released game that used the original doom engine. Unfortunately it was released in 1996 which means it competed against both Duke 3D and Quake. In many ways its a lot like Half Life which came afterword. Its now on Steam under The Original Strife: Veteran's Edition. They've made a few enhancements, but just by using Unreal Engine 4's lighting system my version automatically looks better.

I've replaced many of the textures with hi-rez versions that I either made or found (several were included with UE4). I've made a few models. Unfortunately I have little to no artistic skills. I am after all a programmer. I would love to get some help from anyone willing to contribute. Models are what I need the most. Unfortunately for legal reasons I don't see my version ever getting sold. If I can find a way to submit it to steam as a mod for the original I would like that option as you would have to buy the original to get mine. That would eliminate any legal issues. Also if anyone is just simply curious, I do have a VERY early build available.

Strife was a great game.. I thoroughly enjoyed it..

I'd play a build for testing..

Feel free to check out the Facebook page I linked. The current build is there. However I have a new build coming really soon that fixes some issues and has a 4th map. Technically it has 6 maps but only 3 are accessible mostly since lighting was missing in the other 3.

I remember playing this with a mod. Trailblazer with a patch that made it 'work' and by that I mean those computer board like insta death pits in the plant crashed my port and sigil shots did the same. WOuld be cool to see what it would look like more 'modern'

I'm familiar with the pits of course (I'm actually working in such an area now) I'm not familiar with that mod. I actually never saw any user made content until recently. It was dated 2006. It requires a modernized version such as vavoom or GZDoom. It uses features not available in the original executable. It felt like a real side mission. It was pretty cool. I think it would be cool to add it to my version in some way. There is unfortunately no voice acting for the new dialog. I am using the original dialog (most of which doesn't sound that bad considering its 8 bit).

It was mainly a weapon and item replacer mod. A little on the unbalanced side but it was still a lot of fun. It's on the forums for Gzdoom itself which I won't link here but I can PM it if ya wanna check it out. Just bare in mind it naturally doesn't work with strife and the patch someone made to get it to I haven't noticed update in a while.

I spent all day working on this model (which isn't done yet). I think its actually pretty good considering I'm not an artist. Its missing a lot of components (such as the green lightning).

Dang that looks really good. Honestly I hope this gets people back into making older style games and not just CoD version 9001 'Now with more boomies!'
