Hey beautiful people! I have a few quetions about BSA that I was hoping someone could answer.

To get started, I am currently a Star scout working on Life. I only need a few merit badges. Also, I am apart of a Venture Crew so if I do transition, I would have something else to fall to.

My questions are:
1. How long after I start hrt before they remove me from my troop?
2. If I make Eagle before I transition and get a scholarship, would that be taken away after hrt?
3. Is Venture Crew more accepting of gay, bi, pan, trans, etc than Boy Scouts?
4. Would I even be allowed in any BSA related organization after transitioning?

Thank you soooo much in advance for answering my questions.

The Boy Scouts have always been a bit on the conservative side. If getting your Eagle Scout is really important to you, you might want to wait until after you have gotten it. As far as if you can keep a scholarship after the fact, I don't know. I suppose they could try and take it away on the grounds that you got it under false pretenses. Its not fair, but something to consider.

If there is a main headquarters, you might want to send your question in writing with a P.O. box number as the return address. That way, you can get the answer from the top but not have to deal with being "outed" in your troop.

I know there have been a couple of cases where girls were allowed to join the scouts, but they had to fight for it. All I can give you is a guess, but still think your best bet is to contact the head scout in your area.

Thank you so much for your response, it is very appreciated. I will definitly keep this in mind when I figure out my gender identity.

Venture crew is still part of the BSA, so I would suspect no different then being in a troop.
The only plus is that Venture is cooed, so there may be a possibility to remain.

But if you transition, you would become ineligible to get your Eagle.  Girls in Venture Crew can not earn any merit badges or any Boy Scout ranks.

If you get an answer let me know, I'm a leader and am scarred/worried about what will happen as I continue on with HRT.
I do enjoy being outdoors with my kids and like camping, etc.
I hate to think that I'll be kicked out...

Good questions, probably no easy answers as I am a leader also.

BSA has removed the restriction on gay scouts, however I think they would view a trans-girl differently.

That said, I would nail down the Eagle, through Court of Honor (Just to make sure)
Not sure of any scholarships directly tied to Eagle rank, most of those are from outside organizations, many of whom I would suspect frown upon transition.

Venture Crew, being part of BSA, would have the same openess to gay scouts, however ranks in Venture do differ from traditional Scouting and there is no Eagle rank.

Could you continue, that would be a question for higher-ups, like National. You may be allowed to stay in Venture as it is co-ed, but no guarantee. However, as it stands right now, leaders may not be trans.

A couple years ago I received a survey from National and suggested that opening up leadership to trans-people would be desirable, I can't say I have heard any further discussion at that level.

Congratulations on Star and best wishes on your way to Eagle.

And basically, I've been holding back on transitioning until my son gets his Eagle - he's life now.
