So... It's been a long winter, and I'm pale and self-conscious. I decide that I should get some sun. I'm wearing an over-sized plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up and plaid shorts. Very provocative, right? I'm really enjoying the sun and my cat loves having the door open even though he doesn't like being outside. All is good.

"Hey look at the chick gettin' some sun."
"Haha Just what I like to see, a tattooed chick in a butch haircut."
"Hey how much do you think she weighs?"
"Well - I don't know" [mutter]
"Look - " [mutter, mutter]

Then they loitered by their car for a minute before driving off. I was trying to decide whether I should make it clear I could hear them and hope for some shame, or if I should play it safe and pretend I'm asleep. I don't have tattoos, by the way, just scars although I didn't think they were visible from 15-20 feet away. That's one of the main reasons I was trying for a tan so it might be less noticeable. I guess tanning lotion is safer even though it's gross.

Anyway, aside from venting, I would love to hear how you guys handle situations when people aren't just being aggressively awkward but noisily voicing their displeasure with what shouldn't concern them? I mean, I was on my front porch - not even on grass-level. How much lower do I have to fly to be under their redneck radar?? My mate can't understand why it bothers me. Am I nuts?

Do you have the possibility to put up a screen or a towel for more privacy ?

You might also use earplugs... they also shield from the traffic...

Well some people are like chicken, when it comes to behavior (no offense to the passersby meant... but imo its a somewhat fitting picture)... they talk here and there, forgetting about it a few minutes later...
one option would be to disregard it, not investing emotions, sending them love and mentally sending them on their merry way... away from you...
and laughing it off :)
