Tokyo's Shibuya Ward adopts ordinance to recognize same-sex unionshttp://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2015/03/31/national/tokyos-shibuya-ward-adopts-ordinance-recognize-sex-unions/#.VRsmC0ZKPCQAP Mar 31, 2015
With a landmark vote Tuesday by the Shibuya Ward Assembly in Tokyo, the district became the first locale in Japan to recognize same-sex partnerships as the "equivalent of a marriage," guaranteeing the identical rights of married couples, including hospital visitations and apartment rentals.
=================
In Japan, the constitution stipulates a marriage is between a man and a woman.
Therefore, same sex marriage is not recognized.
That said, Shibuya ward in Tokyo now recognizes them since last Tuesday even it is unconstitutional.
This is still going to take a while before the constitution changes.
This doesn't change much my situation and other transgenders but this is a big step forward.
