Hi!

I got my first referral for GRS surgery just before Christmas. Because the NHS Dr who used to do the second referrals at Leeds had retired, I was given the choice of another NHS Dr in Sheffield, or seeing one of two private doctors who were approved to provide second referrals. I initially decided to see the NHS one to keep costs down. I was referred in Januray and found out last week that they only do one appointment per week so I probably wouldn't be seen for another six months or maybe more! So I've made an appointment to see Dr Lorimer at Gendercare in London, I'm going at the beginning of May. As long as everything goes OK, once Leeds have the letter from him they will refer me to the hospital who will contact me to arrange the surgery.

It's not cheap but I can't hold off any longer, I want to get a timescale for surgery and start planning. I'm really excited and a bit scared!  :)

Thanks, I'm so excited! I booked my train tickets today. The clinic is near Marylebone station and there's a little arty cinema nearby so I'm going to go there after and watch a film ( the trains home don't get cheap until the evening).

It's strange to think it's actually going to happen. When I started my transition I wasn't hugely dysphoric about my bits, more ambivalent, but since going full time I've started to really hate them. I can't be intimate with anyone whilst I'm like I am, so it's a huge deal for me and my future. The surgery itself is eight weeks off work which will seem like a lifetime I'm sure! Now that I know that it's probably going to happen in the next year or maybe less I think I need to start gettting myself as healthy as possible.
