I bring you to this video on YouTube
Now I am in no way saying we must stop using the word altogether, but we must stop throwing it around when something doesn't go our way.
In the video, the vlogger is talking about wearing false lashes and posting tem to her instagram account, tagging the company and them retagging her.
First, let me say I HATE the look of false lashes, I think they look trashy on trans persom, drag queens and cis-women, and she looks trashy in the video and would a million times better without them.
She tagged the company and on their account they said they will retag the post, in this case they didn't and I'm guessing in many cases they don't as well.
So she emailed them, they told her that she had to do something else and they might retag her, they didn't after she added the extra hashtag. So now shes posted a video defaming and slendering the company, I were them I would be suing.
Now its most likely the case that those running their social media didn't like how they looked on her or forgot to tag her all together, when she complained they said "stuff her".
But it brings me to my point, we must stop just throwing it around because we don't get our way.
I've seen it here with racism, we have a pro athletic here who is a proud black man, yet the way he throws & levels the racism word at anyone who doesn't like him, many for reasons other than his skin colour is just taking the meaning of the word and tearing it up.
I understand that we have it hard at times & transphobia is a real thing and it can and does kill some of us, but we must be careful when using the word, to level it at someone who simply doesn't like you for who you are and not what you are.
If we are careful with the word, it will make it powerful and give us a head start when we do face transphobia!
