I got a message on Facebook of whom shall rename nameless. They are actually one of my family that supports me at least to a degree. I was surprised to learn from them they thought I did not have my priorities in order when it came to the fact that I was about to get laser hair removal (for on the cheap and done by a respected community doctor). Just 3 months ago I was giving all my money away to the Casinos in Reno and life was bad. I did a 180 from that time and I am bettering myself. I am actually saving money for an apartment too (as deposits are insane in San Francisco)  and this person does not think I am making any progress, simply because I am outside and I don't  have a place. As far as i am concerned I am doing what I need to do for my own mental health not to mention psychical!! I find it extremely hurtful and irritating. I have had my mom do this as well as a few other friends, about different things at different times. Am I alone here? Does anyone else understand?

I totally get it.  My wife actually thinks I'm exercising too much and eating too healthy.  I don't feel like I'm doing enough.  Yeah, I want to lose weight before I start HRT, but I was over 350 lbs!  I needed to lose weight to live!  Before I came out, I didn't care if I lived.

Family thinks they are helping, but they just don't always understand.  I told my dad I wanted to travel more, and he said "you don't need to transition to do that!"  Well, duh!  But now I have the desire and confidence.

Good luck and hugs!

This person needs to know that you know what is best in your life, and it's considered polite to not give advice or opinions unless asked.
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

my mom though does this all the time, and it drives me nuts, but i usually don't hear it from a more distant relative.

Your mom needs to learn this also. Once a person is an adult...parents need to back off and let their chick fly!

My mom offers support but she lets me ask. That's the way it should be, IMO.

Sorry about your family. Hope the misunderstanding is cleared up.

probably not...you see this little bird has not always made good decisions, i am the black raven in the family, so is my own mother, but I am making good ones now and doing my best.

I think a lot of "supportive" people wonder why we aren't living our lives according to what they think is the "one true course" for us to be on. Maybe if they walked in our shoes for a few weeks they might see it differently.
