Lynn Conway transitioned in the 1960s, as I recall... back then, it might even have been TRUE, as surgical efforts were nearly in their infancy in the US. Things have improved considerably in over 50 years, and the rate of orgasmic success (not to mention clitoris creation :) ) has gone up significantly.

All I can say is that if you poke around in the archives here, read the poll Suzi linked to, look on ->-bleeped-<- and Twitter - you'll see lots of women reporting that they're fully and happily orgasmic. I'm assuming the internet is a larger cross-section of the world's population than the place any one person lives (that goes for me too), so probably a bit more representative.

I absolutely do not think you made it up, but I think you got caught in a localized "echo chamber" for a given opinion. That said, the couple times I went to in-person trans support groups, I ran into women who insisted that I had to have GRS or I wouldn't be "really trans," and bragged about their surgical results. Takes all kinds, I guess, and my experience doesn't seem to be any more representative of the whole trans community than yours is.
