I just downloaded the paperwork for insurance with Dr Bowers. It has this paragraph in it;

Dr. Bowers is currently negotiating with insurance companies to be able to accept a reasonable
reimbursement for Genital Reassignment Surgery. If you expect your insurance to cover your genital
reassignment surgery, or related surgeries, our office is happy to assist you with filing the claims
on your behalf. We must first get pre-approval from your insurance company. If we are able to get
pre-approval, you may be required to pre-pay a portion or the total amount of Dr. Bowers' surgical
fees. By signing below, you acknowledge that you may need to pre-pay Dr. Bowers' surgical fees, and
that you will be reimbursed only what your insurance company pays to Dr. Bowers, unless we are
contracted with your insurance company. You also will be responsible for your deductible or co-pay,
as per your agreement with your insurance company.

Does this mean you pretty much have to pay up front and you get reimbursed?

The way I read it.

If you get preapproved then you will need to pay part and the deductible. If not then all payment is up front.

Has anyone with insurance here went to her? How much did you end up having to come up with?

There is someone who had surgery a few days ago and posted a thread here. She had insurance cover her GCS with dr bowers. However I don't know if it was full. Part of the issue is that insurance companies often cheap out and cover like $5000 of a $20,000 surgery.
