So I have just enough discharge through the day to need to use light pads or liners...

But I'm just wondering if tampons are alright to use so it's not so uncomfortable in my panties? Will it dry me out too much?

I have heard some nightmare stories about Tampons post GRS, they tend to do way too much drying but something similar might work, not sure how a menstrual cup will be.
What is a Lie when it's at home? Anyone?
Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up?
Well I'm not giving up. Not for that part of me that hates myself. That part wants me to wither and die. not for you. Never for you.  --Loki: Agent of Asgard

Yes, I would NOT risk it, both because of drying and because tampons can trap bacteria; not quite as much of an issue for a cis woman (menstruation changes the Ph of the vagina and the blood provides a cleansing mechanism to some degree), but even they are advised not to wear a tampon too long just in case.
