Hair Regrowth success? (in temples area)

I have male pattern baldness and my hairline has receded over the last couple years. Also, in the last year I seemed to have thinned out a bunch, which I think was due to stress and possibly diet.

I have been on Spiro and E for 3 months, and I have been on Proscar (Finasteride) for about 5 months. (I am 38 years old)

I have seen some very minor hair regrowth in the temples area and my hair has thickened a little.

A trusted transwoman told me wait 6-9 months for regrowth, but after that I can make decisions about whether or not to consider have hair transplants, etc for a lower hairline.

I am wondering if it would help to switch to dutasteride? Has anybody switched and seen better results?

If you're already on Spiro & Finasteride then your T and DHT is probably so low as to not be having any effect on your hairline. Once hair is gone it can be quite hard to get it back - if you are getting a bit of regrowth that's a good sign. Being in a similar situation myself I definitely get how distressing and frustrating it can be - after a year and a half on my full dosage I have had some regrowth. Certainly not enough to count as real hair but it's a start... maybe in another a couple of years I'll be there. I hope you get there a lot sooner!! :)

I had full regrowth on just e and spiro (also on progesterone but idk if that counts for this) It took a long time, like 2-3 years for it to fill in fully and now its mostly caught up with the rest of my hair. It's still getting thicker too.

Thanks Ladies! Lady Oracle, wow...that's incredible that you've had full regrowth over 2-3 years!
How much were you missing before it grew back?

Hello.

I'm not on HRT yet, but what I used to recover from my hair loss is 1mg Finasteride and 5% Minoxidil. I'm going to include a couple pictures of my hair from the start of treatment and today. If you have more questions feel free to ask. ^_^

I never did spiro, but E, finasteride and dutasteride worked wonders.  (see avatar)

Post-orchi, even better.   I may not need trans*plants after all.

Hmm not sure how much but it was pretty noticeable. I had the typical m shaped hair line.

You have to get your DHT levels checked than get prescribed accordingly. I'd use the search this has been discussed at length already a year ago.

Also if you consider how long it takes for hairs to cycle between anagen, catagen, telogen phases then we're talking years for any regrowth to become fully mature after completion of multiple regrowth and shedding cycles. A new hair doesn't just sprout and go directly into fully matured hairs. It has to cycle and get stronger. This takes TIME.

I've heard with the hair protective nature of E that some transwomen have been lucky and their hairloss has reversed to some extent in the same order of their MPB.

Other than that, stopping the hairloss is ultimately the goal and that alone is considered a success. Any regrowth is just a blessing and icing on the cake. Can't count on it.
