Good luck! Hope it goes by swiftly and easily. Wear something nice!

I'm glad to live in a place where all I had to do was fill out a paper, hand it in, and wait for the mail to come. Wish it was easier for the rest of you without all the publishing and going to court nonsense.

Should my fairly quick... mine was a total of 5 minutes... judge stood outside the door holding a clipboard and asked me a few questions about avoiding debt and confirm my name, etc... then signed it and off I went... hope its just as simple as that for you :-)

So.  How did it go?  :)

Hey there.  It went great!  The judge asks you why you want to change my name.  I said, "I want a name that better reflects my gender identity".  He just nodded and moved through it.

There have been some denials (by transphobic judges) where I live, so that is why I was concerned.

Thanks!

Hey, guys, so today I reached another milestone.  I got my new license with the correct gender marker.  I could have gotten my registration changed too, but I needed to have the title to my car in order to do that.

Monday I had the day off so I hit the bank, mortgage company, and car/house insurance company.  Those places I had to do face-to-face.  I am faxing and mailing other things out (electric, cable).  There is so much crap to cover!  I suppose there is a lot out there with your name when you are 45 years old!

The strangest thing is that in order to change my sewer bill I need to get something written from the lawyer I used when I purchased my house.  The deed needs to be changed.  That's ridiculous, so I am going to just let that one ride. She explained a way for me to have the bill addressed as "in care of <new legal name>", but my old name will also be on the address label.  That's fine to me, as my birth name doesn't really cause me dysphoria.

I still have professional organizations, cable, electric, magazines.  I suppose I still have a lot.  But, I really have already covered a lot too.  I am looking forward to my new medical insurance cards coming in.

I also need to find out about the possibility of getting my college degrees reprinted with my new name.

I can also get a new birth certificate since I have had top surgery, but I am not sure that I want my gender marker changed with my insurance, so I am going to take some time on that one.

It's so nice when the new cards and such start coming in :) Just swapped all my credit cards and student loans last week. Even though they're bills, it's nice having the right name!

Congrats Brett. Unfortunately that is common to have to change to deed to change certain bills that are related to your property. Here I had to do it to change my irrigation billing. Since it's another tax assessment for that they kept billing it under my old name tell I got the deed updated. I would check the laws in your area. You maybe able to do a quicker version that doesn't require a lawyer since your just transferring it from your previous name to your new name even though it will look like two different people as far as that document is concerned. Good luck and hugs

Congratulations! Name and gender marker, nice double whammy. Keeps you from spending more than you already have to for you licence. :)
Getting all the bills in order is tons of fun. (<sarcasm)

I have a mix of documents in my name and some that are not. The older you get the more documents you have. :)  My car and so on are in my name, my house is not. Just realized my security system is in the wrong name. Oh boy. I am totally out as trans, but I hate to explain myself.

I legally changed my name as soon as I could do it and it was such a thrill when my new official paperwork was posted out to me.  Idiots who would say things like, 'But what's your real name,' could go bite themselves after that.
