This past Saturday, I was at a birthday party for one of my good friends and I got the best complement yet. There was a very good cheesecake out on the table and one of the guys there was trying to resist it. Throughout the party, I kept trying to get him to eat the cake and he eventually called me a Siren. I looked up the term Siren and it's basically a beautiful but dangerous temptress. I've never had such a good complement and didn't think a guy would think I'm beautiful. I know I might be strange for thinking that being called a Siren is a compliment but hey, it's me and I feel great :)

Good for you! I'm glad it wasn't the other, more common, definition and he was calling you piercingly loud.

Note also that sirens are a kind of mermaid.

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

Thanks for all the kind words :) I even bought a kindle book called Simply Irresistible which talks about the different types of Sirens and examples / case studies from throughout history of real Sirens. I'm very excited about studying this topic further.

you should own this take it further next time....

try doing this, in addition to maybe a siren costume. Meet the same guy later and say "can you hear me now"?

In fact! There is a cartoon teenager show named Monster High....which has just the perfect thing for you and has your name:

not sure if its an actual character....could be a fan made one.

I'll study sirens further and will seriously consider making a costume for Halloween. Seems to fit my personality. I'm hoping to see that guy again. Very interesting about that character in Monster High.

Less siren... more succubus, with a hint of vampire and a little gorgon when upset.

But not too much Gorgon, because you don't really want this guy stiff do you?

Maybe not all of him...

Sirens are some of the most beautiful  seductive creatures in the world, but also the most deadly.

Might as well start digging a hole in the ground for any sailor that catches wind of the siren's song.

Unless I'm getting two parts of the story mixed up, in Homer's "Odyssey," Odysseus ordered his men to plug there ears with Siren-proof...things (memory's fuzzy). There were not enough for him, so he ordered his men to tie him to the ship's main mast, and not release him no matter what he says. He would suffer the Siren's song, if you could call it "suffering."

They stuffed their ears with wax. Odysseus wanted to hear the siren singing so the crew tied him to the mast so he wouldn't dive overboard and drown.

And of course it was a woman (OK, a goddess) who clued them in on the earplugs - Circe told them to use beeswax. :)

Hmm except in the DC universe Circe is a villain who turns men into animals.
