I changed my entire name, first/middle/last. But of course I have the same social security number.

I tried to apply for a car loan, and was told....i have ZERO credit history. Um....

I have a credit card in my wallet with the correct name on it, from Capital One Bank. I have credit history under the old name. I have 20 years of history under the old name.

So I out myself and ask them to run it under the old name. Because I need a reliable vehicle and the one I have is dying...

Still NO HISTORY. Nothing.

The name change was MONTHS ago. Has this happened to anyone else?

To be or not to be....that is the question

Interesting! No, I haven't had that happen.

I had my name changed in March, updated all my documents and accounts at the end of March/beginning of April. Under my new name/same social security number I've been able to get a new credit card and get approved for a new lease with no security deposit because of my good credit history.

When you changed your name and updated everything with SSA, did you also go through and update your name on any of your existing credit accounts? In addition to all my identification documents, I had 10 other accounts that I needed to update my name on (student loans, credit card, car loan, etc.).

It's strange that it's showing nothing for you.

I haven't had it happen, but I would call the credit bureaus and see what if they can help get it straightened out for you. Hugs

It takes about 3 months after you change your name with all of your creditors that report to the credit reporting agencies for it to show up on your credit report. I haven't had an issue with 3 new accounts I've opened since my name change. I would definitely run your credit. It could be something simple as them not entering in you SS# correctly.

I changed the name immediately on my one active credit card and my student loans. The rest was old stuff, closed cards etc.

It wasn't the greatest credit history, but to just not exist any more under either name is really confusing.
