I've never taken formal voice training lessons or any kind of surgery, but I've been told my voice is fine. However, I've found that when I'm speaking at once for a long time, longer than a minute or more my throat starts to get tight, and literally begins to restrict my breathing.

Does anyone get anything similar to this?

Probably because you are overstraining it or misusing it. You might want to be careful of any permanent damage.
