I'm on the waiting list for provincially funded top surgery but there is so much uncertainty about when (except that it's going to be BIG problem at work) that I am thinking of getting it done privately. Public funding would cost less up front but it could mean losing out on a lot of work for 5+ months even if I only need 2 months off for recovery.
I don't want to shell out the bigger bucks and bigger carbon emissions to go see the big name surgeons like Garramone, Crane, or McLean. I'm looking at Dr Mangubat in Seattle. He seems well regarded and experienced and I could get the female hips reduced at the same time. However the exchange rate adds a lot to the cost as well as the need to pay for a hotel for a few days.
I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a surgeon in SW British Columbia who can do a decent job even if they don't have formal training in trans* surgeries. The trained surgeons in BC are not an option because they are booked too far ahead/on maternity leave/on vacation all summer/not starting until they see how the others make out.
I need to make a decision soon! Thanks for any help you are able to give.
