hi everyone,

Firstly I'll just let you know I'm seeing my doctor today. But I believe he won't really know how this all works,  so any advice will be appreciated. ...

I'm more worried about how I stop, do I cut down? Or just cold turkey?  Anyone know how long I would wait? I'm concerned about my emotional state.

Also I'm aware I should have done this first, but I didn't have the money and my quality of life was being too severely affected to wait.. my mum came down the other night and said she'd pay.

for those of you in australia,  how do you go about freezing sperm? Do you have to pay to have your sperm count checked?

Thanks heaps in advance lovelies

Hi - we don't know what you are on, how long you have been on it, we don't know your medical history or health - we cannot give you medical or dosage advice. I certainly hope your doctor knows otherwise why are they prescribing to you in the first place. At any rate you would probably need to be off HRT for a certain length of time before your sperm is plentiful and viable. You really should talk with a professional sperm bank about these issues. As for freezing it, you can't just pop it in the freezer of your fridge as that would kill the sperm. If you want to do it right you need to ask the professionals. All the best with your endeavour. :)

Hahaha thanks grace, I will take it out of the freezer now!

I'm more concerned with how I should be stopping it.. I saw my doctor today. He didn't really know, and offered me no advice on whether I should cut down or do it cold turkey. I've stopped it completely 2 days ago.. I should also mention, I only saw my GP as the doctor I usually see is on holidays and the only other one I can find in brisbane has a 2 month wait!

I'm current on an eostrogen patch, spironolactone and progesterone.. If that helps!

Your doctor will give you best advice (and I am not giving you medical advice) but you need to stop for months at least to start to regenerate sperm.

I don't know what my little tadpole dudes were like before I went on HRT for two years back in the early 90s but they were significantly munted about five years after I stopped HRT. Were they already sluggish and sparse or did the HRT do it to them and they never recovered? Never got to the bottom of that.

It takes about 4 months for sperm cells to mature, and on top of that you've got to allow time for your testicles to recover from the effects of the HRT. Basically it means you'd need to come off hormones for at least 6 months, maybe longer. You might need fertility treatment to help things along if your sperm production doesn't restart by itself too. This is all assuming you were fertile prior to going on hormones of course!

It might be worth going to a fertility doc and see what they say.
