Two Useful Study Books.

Here's two really useful books I'm reading at the moment which I think would be an aid to helping to understand scripture: -

'Misreading Scripture With Western Eyes', by E. Randolph Richards and Brandon J. O'Brien.

'Letters to the Church, A survey of Hebrews and the General Epistles', by Karen H. Jobes

Both books are available as e.books on Amazon which is how I carry the greater part of my religious library around with me these days.

Reading the Bible is a trans-cultural experience which is something that's overlooked by many Christians and causes a good deal of misunderstanding as to what the Bible really is saying about a Christian life of faith.

As I continue my studies I'll post other titles that I think any inquiring Christian might find useful.

If you have some spare time, I would highly suggest reading "In from the Wilderness: Sherman: She-r-man" by David E. Weekly, who is a transgendered pastor who shares his life experience growing up and eventually serving in the Methodist church in stealth until he decided it was time from him to share his story worldwide It is not really an exegetical book on the scriptures, but they are explained.  It really is a powerful book.  I really enjoyed it.
