Well I never had to shave since my hair growth is basically nonexistent but I do anyway. I like the look of hair on my legs and arms, makes me feel more masculine, though it grows extremely slow! I also shave my head once a month, to get it down before I'm growing an afro.
Funny, but my mom tried to say I'm forbidden from cutting my hair when I told her I wanted it cut. She said she wouldn't pay for anything, granma too. So my dad felt it was my decision, being I was 16 and trying to explore my gender identity, and sent me enough cash to get my hair cut four times. First time, I got all the length cut, was left was a boyish trim, but could be brushed down in a short girly way to look cute. I didn't like it, so a week later cut it shorter, more boyish. But could STILL be styled in a feminine way. Finally, I told them shave it all off. The lady who I told it to refused cause "You'll look just a boy then! You're too cute to be doing this!" I shrugged, got someone elses attention, and had him shave it. First shave so they cut it down way too low, but it grows back very fast in the first two weeks and I had a short head of hair. My mom, however, still doesn't forgive me. But my dandruff sure has basically disappeared, so thats good!
