Meeting Others?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I would like to get to know more people who are in my area (or close to) as I don't know anyone else going through this. As my family don't accept my change I'm finding day to day life harder and I've started becoming a 'hermit'. It would be nice to get out there and talk to more people etc but I've never really known where to go or how to start.

I'm from Essex, England might I add.
