"I'm not hiding anything, anymore," Buenaventura said.

Buenaventura was born in a male body "my birth name is actually Bruce, like Bruce Jenner" Buenaventura said. Just like Jenner, Brooklynn is in the process of transitioning.

Very happy for her, though I long for the day when everyone will assume that trans people can do anything anyone else can, and it will no longer be world news when a trans girl does something that thousands of cis girls do every year.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?
