Sorting out refinancing with the bank - signed off with the woman at the branch, not a problem. I gave her a sworn copy of my name change certificate. A few days later - good news, all approved!

Now today I'm told that somebody or thing wants a sworn copy of my driver's licence and Medicare card (even though these were both seen by the woman at the branch) plus a form needs to be filled out. It's a form so special that they are having to draw it up specially. Doesn't that make me feel sooooooo special!?  ??? Oh, and they have to be sworn by the same solicitor too. Why? Oh, just so I guess.  :eusa_doh:

Well, I'm guessing that others who have a name change don't get put through these new, special hoops. I think I am, indeed, getting some "special" treatment. And when this is done I will be looking at my own special way of getting to the bottom of my "different" treatment.  :icon_boxing:

I haven't had to worry abount refinancing, but just changing my mortgage and everything my name required things to be shown including certified copies more than once. I feel your pain some banks love making us jump through their hoops. Good luck and Hugs

Thanks Mariah! They already have all my details several times over and I have my account and cards all in the right name. Why do the they wanted further signed sworn proof of who I am.....and who I have not hidden from being!,?!

Bureau-freaking-crats and their wielding of pointless power to what useful end!?

I changed one credit card account, one car loan and one car lease. All were pretty easy. The  two hardest ones were PSE&G (our utility company) and Verizon (I'm still trying to get it changed.) Because I have Verizon for home (FiOS) and Wireless. I have an All-In-One billing account, they can never change my name in both systems at the same time. They change it and then a few months later it changes back on the bill. Yet if I go into the Verizon Wireless store, they only see my new name, but my bill still shows my old name after 9 months of going back and forth with them.

Hmm, odd.. I've had to change my name with all sorts of things and haven't really had any issue, except one.. My bank insists on putting my legal title 'Mr' on my debit card.. Which bank, you might ask? If you remember the ad's, you already know..

This bank is the sponsor of a certain Kogorah based rugby league team. More boof than brains in this instance as well.

In my experience that kind of special treatment is required by jerks who need extra proof of their own authority, or who don't feel complete without making an example of people they don't think are properly following the rules.

Sometimes it's the "underwriter" of the loan who comes up with the really nitpicky stuff, especially just before closing.

They are like the fraud department - they have a "risk" focus, and lose nothing by asking for more paperwork. Underwriters never get fired for asking for more. ;)

I'm now getting told it is to do with the title of the house..........funny how they've not knocked back any of the mortgage payments made by me as Ros!!?

I'm with ANZ I just told the manager that my honorific was Ms. If they had a problem with it they would face the sex discrimination commission. They got the paperwork cleared straight away. I did have a problem when I got an ATO cheque to old male name and the couldn't process it as  my account was know under a female called Cindy and yes they showed me the paperwork for changing my account name from his to mine.

Yep. Sure love banks.

Eventually........problem solved.

Still get the odd strange letter addressed to "Mr". Some things just don't compute it seems.
