Do you believe that there is such a thing as gay professions? Name the professions of all the gay and even trans people you know including your own profession.

I don't know any gay hairdressers, or interior decorators, but have seen many gays in social work and couseling.

Retail store-male
Janitor-male
Store self stocker-male
High school teacher-male
CNA-male
News Reporter-Female
Library Assistant-Male

My theory is that we're just like everyone else as far as jobs.

We tend to be more often involved in unemployment. :wry grin:

I was in mental health for many years, before that, software development.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

I got a degree from surface treatment, in other words I'm a painter but as of now I'm unemployed. I know just the way I look doesn't really up my "value" in the market if I tried to find painting job.

I'm currently looking to change profession to customer service and retail.

What do you mean by that? Do they not care at your work that you're trans or not notice?

Can I please offer you a friendly suggestion? We are people first, I am not a gay friend or in a gay profession but your friend who is gay and your nurse who happens to be gay.  Not to get all politically correct, but some people find it offensive to have gay, trans or any label as the first descriptor we hear.
Open, out and evolving queer trans person forever with HRT support since March 13, 2013

No they don't care. And as the last poster said some people find it offensive to be known exclusively by a label. I'm a man. I'm not called a transman at work, I am a man to them. And as long as I do my job and do it well I remain employed.

I apologize if that offends you, Ma'm. I've never been a tactful person, and never pay much attention to the wording other people use either. I just like to read demographics which may or may not be real ones. I wanted to see what these people themselves thought.

the priesthood?

politician?

I don't know really. I know that where I work, it doesn't matter if I'm trans and they are aware of it, but I transitioned before ever working there.

Priesthood is a terrible example...we don't want to be associated with a bunch of pedos.

About the only profession I can think of that is likely to be exclusively gay is a gay male sex worker. And even then, my personal experiences tell me that's not always the case..

Not all priests are pedophiles and should not be referenced as such.

NO such thing as a 'gay' profession.

Quotewe don't want to be associated

Who is we? Be careful of speaking for others.
  •

marsh monster

I was just joking with those professions.

As someone else said, there's really not any particular gay profession. There are gays in all walks of life and in all professions these days, even the military.

Isn't this a bit of a discrimination, professions strictly for gays or trans?

I am locking this topic as it is offensive and discriminatory.

Human beings are human beings regardless of their race, creed, sexuality or gender.

To suggest that any group in society should be excluded from or restricted to any profession is wrong.

I realise that this was not the intent of the op, but the way the thread has developed is not welcome on this site.
