Martine A.

Hi

Today my electric shaver Braun's Silk épil 5 fell down and broke. I need to buy another shaver. Primarily for facial use.

I wasn't particularly happy with it, so something better is now an option. Would you happen to have recommendations?

Thank you. :)

The Seiko Cleancut ES-412 personal shaver, but I don't use it on my face.

You could look up a few which have a gel dispenser...
they often give a pretty close shave, almost as close as blades...
with and without gel...
ususally they should be able to be used without gel, it should be in the manual...
so own nourishing products can be used afterwards...

you could look up a few reviews of others, and get one where you have a good feeling with.

I think you're asking for an "epilator" not a "shaver". Anyway, I'm kinda interested on this thread, my Silk Epil 5 is on its last days and I'd need a nice replacement too.

Yeah I also use it as an epilator. But a shaver head comes with it too.

Today I broke the shaver head. So, while I am still able to use the device as an epilator, I also need to buy something to be able to shave myself.

Oh I get it! By the way, mine didn't come with the shaver head u_u

Well the shaver head should be seperately available...

Yeah, two things deserve mention... 1) there are different packs of braun's silk epil 5, some include the shaver head, some don't. 2) I still intend to buy a different shaver. :)

Well normally when I want a really close shave for my face I use a normal mach 3 razor but like the day after I'll use an electric when it's really short and a cold shave would just agitate my skin at that point.

The shaver I use is the Braun P70 mobile shaver, but I don't think they make this model anymore, as Amazon is selling it for absurd prices (like $122). This is a $25 electric razor I got from CVS years ago that runs on two AA batteries. The more recent version is the M90 which again you can get off Amazon for $22.50 and it looks exactly the same as the P70.

I've used a handful of other electric razors over the years, and this one has worked the best hands down. It's a pretty powerful little sucker and it eats up those short hairs as I described and gets you smooth again. It uses a straight foil instead of the 3 circular blade system, which in my experience, lets you really push harder to get closer.

Anywho, that's my recommendation. It's not an expensive one but it sure gets the job done well.  :)
It's just a harmless nickname. Relax.

I mostly use a razor to shave, except in a couple areas which don't react well to a standard razor (my upper butt and lower back...go figure.) I have been using the Phillips Bodygroom for years and it does a great job. My partner uses it on her bikini line too to get a close shave without razor bumps. Not quite razor smooth but very close. Replacement blades are not too expensive and the blade lasts a good long time. Only downside is the battery on the Bodygroom is not very big, so you really need to keep it in the charger when not in use or it will slow down in the middle of use.

Edit- The Bodygroom does NOT work on your face.. Ask me how I know this...  :embarrassed:

Getting active here. I would so like to order today but spending money for a good shaver requires spending more time to make decision.

The first choice I have to make is whether to take shaver for a man or for a woman. I'm not on hrt. So... inclined to look at men's stuff regardless of how much I hate the flashing men's ads /dysphoria triggers/.

So looking at Braun's series (Europe here). Can someone tell whether Series 7 are worth it vs Series 3 in terms of quality / price? How about series 5? I am a fair novice, hence the questions. Would dig myself soon enough. :)

I Preston say none. Electric shavers don't get anywhere as close of a shave as a razor.
Personally I prefer the good old safety blade. Yes they are harder to use at first, and yes you will bleed, but once you get the hang of it, nothing else even comes close. Your legs, face or body will be silky smooth for about two days and even though it's a single blade I find it exfoliates better than the newer multiple blade razors.

Now if you want the closest shave possible anywhere, straight blade all the way.

The few hair I have left after having them lasered, my grey ones, I shave with a razor. I agree that is the closest shave you get. I use Silk Epil 5 which my girls bought last year in Germany on my legs. I like it a lot. My wife has an old one, can't remember the name, but that one sucks. I don't think the Epil 7 is so much better than the 5 in order to justify the price difference. Hope you'll find the right solution for yourself.

I am somewhat a dinosaur. If it doesn't have an electric cord to work without a battery, I don't want it.
While that dinosaurness of me is being softened, I ordered this for my face:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Braun+Series+3+340s&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X

Dutch post had been lazy, so I don't have it yet. Will share impressions once it is here.

That about the cord is the same reason I choose silk epil 5 over 7 or 9. Apparently I need to move on.

So... next thing. Legs. I really don't want to throw money at lasering my legs. I hope hrt will make them more manageable first. Can you tell something about silk epil 7 vs 9 for legs? :)

Braun's Series 3-340s is good enough for my face. Except it seems it can't work while on cord (didn't read the manual yet). Wanted to post those comparison pages:

Braun's latest men series comparison:
http://www.braun.com/us/male-grooming/series-shavers/series-shavers-comparison.html

Braun's silk epil series comparison:
http://www.braun.com/us/female-grooming/silk-epil-epilators/silk-epil-epilators-comparison.html

Still thinking what to do about those.

Time for an update.

I actually also got silk epil 9 on an über discount. Got to say, there is difference to the 5, and to the man's shaver. Impressions:

1. Man's shaver works best for my face
2. Sikl epil 5 vs 9, there is a different pattern on the epilator head. The 5 is straight, while the 9 steers sideways, symmetrical to the half. The 9 is less pain for me to epilate.

But epilation is still pain. I started doing my legs for the first time, some hairs just go, some are incredible pain. I make skin tight but that still hurts. I suppose the first time is the hardest.

Yep, the newer generations of epilators are supposed to be more painless.

The first time might be the hardest. You might try ice afterwards for example... you might look up the manual or the internet, if some hints are given...

I can share experience that second generation hair is easier to epilate. It is about painless in contract to the plucking hell of the first timers.
