TW "I want to keep my ovaries/testes"

Most of us have probably heard about the research by Dr Atala, whose goal i believe is to turn ovaries in testes and vice versa. Keeping this in mind, i want to have bottom surgery. However, i would like to keep my ovaries for this purporse. I would love to be able to create my own testosterone. I have also heard that once you have these parts removed you can die if you dont have hormones, which i find rather unsettling. So i would like to know if i could have a vaginectomy and hystorectomy (with metoidioplasty and scrotoplasty) and keep my ovaries.

Die without hormones, nobody told me about that. The doctor took me off all hormones about 10 years ago and other than the hot flashes that tapered of after a few years I seem to be fine. Any hormones in my body would produce by something other than the gonads.

The main concern I've heard is that hormones regulate bone calcium levels so there is a danger of osteoporosis without hormones.

Ever hear of eunuchs?  Then, its something we do to our animals for a longer healther life.  Yes there is a little bone loss, but that happens in alot of women w ovaries.  Just get your bone density tests and talk to your dr..  id remove the ovaries though, one body part that can cause complications.  My wife lost hers to cysts on them, at least not cancer..  a little grouch w less estrogen, but shes healthy:)  good luck!

I'm actually not super interested in having my reproductive organs removed either, or at least, it's not a huge priority for me. However, an FTM friend of mine keeps getting ovarian cysts on his, and I was actually surprised that his doctor put him on T after he had already had surgery to remove cysts there, as I've read that T can agitate that condition. But hey, it's not my body/doctor. I guess in a few years I may ask my endo if there's medical necessity/recommendation for it, but for now, I guess I'm fine having my ovaries, and even my uterus. It's not a huge deal for me, but no, you can't die from getting everything removed and then not medically replacing hormones. Otherwise, like someone said, our dogs wouldn't be very lively.  😀

I've heard about this and it's the only reason I try not to get too upset about having to constantly push back starting T. Have there been new updates on his progress though? The last I heard was a study from 2009 where the ovaries of nice were converted to testes. I can't find anything more recent than that.

I am very green one this topic so apologies, but doesnt th pronlonged use of T when you keep your ovaries lead them to eventually oxidize and cause health problems? Personally this is one of few things that makes me delay getting on T because i also want biological children. Idk about anyone else but it kinda feels like im waiting for science
