Hi all. I have been considering going to Dr. Haben. I guess it would be the icing on the cake for me since I would not mind having a bit higher pitched voice.

My problem is I would like to chat with someone who HAS ACTUALLY had the surgery with him.

Anyone out there? I would give out my number.

yup. like at least 5 of us have been to him. what would you like to know ;D
  •

Katie

Well I would like to give out my phone number and have a voice chat.

Didn't think this request would be that big a deal. I was assuming that the people here would want to help others but hey its all good. Strange if someone wanted to ask me a question and was sincere  I would talk to them on the phone.

I think there's a limited pool of people to help you, Katie. Maybe someone would be more willing to post a recording than make contact? I assume you want to hear someone who has been to Dr Haben.

I want to TALk to someone that actually has had the surgery. A recording means absolutely NOTHING on the internet. I could tell you I sound like Reba Macintyre and even put a recording of her and say that's me. So call me skeptic but if anyone here has had the surgery I would THINK they would want to help others.

Just saying some folks might not want to reveal their personal information to someone they don't really know that well. Security overriding the desire to help. Just my thoughts.

I understand your frustration, but please be a little realistic.  I haven't had this surgery done yet, but even if I had I would feel uncomfortable sharing my phone number with a total stranger.  I think we have been extremely fortunate here to have so many wonderful people who have chosen to share their private experiences in great detail, answer questions, and post recordings.  These people DO want to help and they have in sooooo many ways.  It's up to you if you want to believe that the many recordings shared here are somehow false but ask yourself this: What would anyone have to gain by posting a fake or altered recording?  If you're still unconvinced maybe you should call or email Dr. Haben himself.  His staff is very friendly on the phone and he has been very thorough when answering my questions by email.  He has results posted on his site and even outlines that he only posts "average" results because he doesn't want to give anyone a false expectation.

You know something I don't like the idea of giving out personal info but then I do because hey I have had several surgeries that it appears a number of people want to ask about. Since I am relatively rare in having had these surgeries as much as I don't like giving out info to strangers I do because I know there aren't many of us out there. I think there is a way to pick out the people you don't want to talk to because they might be not be sincere but hell I have the cash to get the surgery I just want to talk to someone that has had it because I know they are pretty dam rare.

Katie

PS. in exchange for talking to me I will give you all my personal info so you know I am not nuts and very real. Crap I will even give you my Roller Derby team name and you can see 1000s of pictures of me the trans girl that plays derby and NEVER discusses my past with my team or people I play against.

I have my surgery in two weeks so I wouldn't be able to help for 2-3 months. I you read the threads on voice surgery you will find that you only get out of it what you put into it. You have to learn how to use the new voice to get the most out of it. In addition you may not want to hear my after voice as mine will be a lower feminine voice. I am 6'2" and a high voice just doesn't fit with somebody that size. Each voice will be different depending on the size of the person, the training and the features we are born with. I think that many after getting their new voice don't hang around here because they no longer need to.

Just chiming in to say you could create a throw-away Skype account just for this purpose. They're free. Hopefully it's just that and you haven't thought of this.

I'd give out my information in a New York second, but I haven't had voice surgery so Katie wouldn't benefit from talking to me. Good idea though.

It was a generic "you", Devlyn, not addressing you specifically. I'm sorry it wasn't clear enough.

I've also NOT had the surgery, but wanted to offer another option for folks that are in a position for talking with Katie, but are concerned about security:

*67 (or something like it -- Google to verify, and maybe test it with a friend) dialed on your phone just before dialing a number blocks caller-id.  This may be US-specific.

Also, Google has an app called Google Voice that lets you setup a new phone number, for free.  It is a pass-through to your actual phone number. So you give people your Google Voice number to dial, and Google forwards the call to your phone.

Just a couple of options aside from the Skype option that Promethea mentioned.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

My ear is trained pretty well and the voice clips really impressed me. At first I had no idea that things had progressed so far in 30 years from being impossible  to almost magic.

I would also suggest Skype or other free voice apps. I used the same when talking to people who have been to Korea since I also wanted to have live contact and not just recordings. I managed to meet only one person in real life though who had the surgery but this really convinced me. I think it is a good idea not to just have recordings. Funny thing is - my live voice over Skype seems to be better than my recordings, I was told ;)

And then there is also mumble. It even allows group voice chats and some of the mods here are playing around with it...

Greetings.
