Hey all, Jay here
I wanted to ask you all about your opinion on a certain Irish doctor - Prof. Donal O'Shea. He works in Loughlinstown and is Ireland's only trans-friend endocrinologist that will prescribe HRT
However, he advocates that Ireland shouldn't have self-determination it it's gender recognition bill. He also refers to "true transgenders". He thinks that people should need therapist clearance for hormones, surgery, and gender change, so there's no chance they'll change their mind.
I disagree strongly with his stance - if someone makes a mistake like that, should it not be on their own head? And even so, he's blocking the route for trans people who want to transition and need to transition.
Any thoughts?

Ms Grace

I don't know of him.

While I believe transgender people should be able to self determine their own path of treatment I can appreciate that certain medical professionals believe there are some people who might not be suitable for HRT and transition (generally due to mental health considerations) - unfortunately we find ourselves having to "prove ourselves trans"/"sane" and jump through hoops as a result.

It is suggested that all medical practitioners who look after T-people use the Standard of Care as published by WPATH.

It is now SOC7 and available on Google. wpath soc7. Or www.wpath.org
