Old Email Haunting Me

So I've transitioned at work, and everything has been fine... except for my email change.

I started off with joe.lastname@ and switched to jo.lastname@ when I went full-time and didn't know what my new name would be. We have google apps and I'm the admin. I went into the admin console and changed the email and name, and set it up so that anyone who emailed the old one would be forwarded to the new one (alias function). About a week ago I changed it to joan.lastname@ and disabled forwarding of the joe.lastname@.

^Bad Idea :(

Here's the best way: Have the admin set up a new account with the new name. Then go into the old account and use the vacation thing, but make it say something about the name change and what your new email is.

The problem with the way I did it is that my new email address is forever linked to the old one. Unless everyone who has my old email goes in and manually changes/deletes it, I'll never be rid of it. Folks will type in my new name, but google still has the old email attached. I have contacted their support but they were not helpful. They did put in a feature request to alert admins that changing the name/email of an account will continue to have it linked.

Perhaps this is a sign for me to be out and proud about being transgender.

That's unfortunate, but kudos for having a good attitude about it :)

I was the admin at the time I transitioned too - but I honestly can't remember how I went about it now. I think it worked pretty well whatever it was...

We use office 365. They forwarded the old one to the new one. I've been telling important people that I have a new name and I've transitioned. People accept. In 6 months I'm going to kill off the old email address. With it, spammers will be gone too. Good riddance.

I was still using one that had my boy name for a while, but unfortunately I went through some hardcore poverty and lost my web domain. A close friend gave me an address on his web jawn, and I simply emailed everyone I knew and was in touch with. "Hey folks, this is my new email address." Can you do that? Set up your old email to forward to your new one, and reply to all of those emails with your new address. And when you get one of those, let the person know this is your new address.

I hope that helps. :)

I think I'll have to live with it for the moment. Eventually I think I'll go with joan@ which is different than the pattern everyone else at the org uses (firstname.lastname@) but oh well. I think I shoudl wait a bit since I've just changed it and made people go through hassle already.
