Starting new Job

Hi all,
I am about to start a new Job with a Security Company. Probably will be working local where I live. I'm trying to figure out at what time I should tell HR about my transition, if at all.
Or let my physical changes (Later on) have them question me?

Help?

I solved the problem by transitioning before I found a new job. In your case I would wait at least until you finish probation and possibly not in the first years. You are the one with your feet on the ground so you will be a better judge of that than me.
My thought is you want enough of a work record that they will value you and make the extra effort to keep you.

I'll be transitioning at work in the next year or two.  I've been here for about 2.5 years already.  I just started HRT 5 weeks ago, so I've got a long ways to go.  My HR department is aware and they are working on the health insurance side of things for now.

How far along are you in your transition?  I see you've only been on HRT going on 2 months now.  I'd wait until after you'd been at that company long enough to earn your co-worker's respect and really create a place for yourself in the company, THEN I'd bring it to HR and setup a 3-month or 6-month or perhaps even longer timeline.  So like Dena, I agree that it'll be probably close to two years in before you officially transition on the job.  It'll just be easier for you and them both that way.  In my opinion anyways.

I agree 100%..I will take my time and let the Hormones do their thing. Get settled in on the new job.
Thank you for the reply.

I have to go in for a Drug/Physical Screening tomorrow for this job. Will the Hormones affect the results or are they known to affect the results? Will they ask me if I'm on Meds? I will have to disclose if asked I am sure.

How should I go about it? Thank you.

In my experience and my understanding of drug tests, they only check for what they're looking for, and people have hormone imbalances all the time.  They may think it's curious (if they even check for it), but it's none of their business and they have no need to report it to your employer.  Plus, they usually draw blood to check hormone levels, not urine, so it may not even be a really accurate form of testing for hormones in the first place!

The drug test people may ask you about medications, but I don't think I've ever been asked.  They just report back to your employer whether you passed or not as far as I know.

You should have nothing to worry about there either.

The hormones shouldn't be a problem but I am not so sure about the blockers. If your doctor can't tell you, listing the blockers might be a good idea because we are an off label use of the drugs and they will assume you are receiving them for their intended use

Drug testing costs increase for every substance they test for.   They usually just go for the basics- cocaine, amphetamines, opiates and cannabis.   Unless you're an athlete, nobody's testing for hormones because it's an unnecessary hit to the bottom line.

Congrats Jessika on the new role... Yay happy for you  :-*

I am in the same boat, almost (hoping that a role I am shortlisted for comes through (this time))... as I need it for funding FT and in case of the worst.

I have, and really must, unfortunately start in my old world, and have decided to wait till probation is up and talk then!
