http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-05/transgender-malasians-targeted-under-religious-authorities/6596300

ABC News/by Iskhandar Razak in Kuala Lumpur     07/05/2015

"Members of Malaysia's LGBTI community are speaking out about being violently attacked in the moderate Muslim nation, saying the abuse has become common as religious authorities push for more power. " We have cases of transgender [people] that have been killed," said Mitch, a transgender man."

Malaysia has been not good to the transgender people the past 10 years. Laws passed banning tomboys and a masculinizing "bootcamp" opening if your son exhibits any form of femininity was reported here in the past few years. Not surprising.

Still don't get the whole "trans people aren't treated as well in places where religion is stronger thing."

Every religion I've ever had anything to do with teaches to treat people with kindness and respect.

I wonder if in places like Malaysia, when LGBT people are bullied, religion is the excuse, not the cause.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

How can one human being claim to be more of a "religious authority" than another?
