Hello everyone,

I had my surgery at the beginning of June. I'm happy to have had it and everything but am a little concerned about one side. I was very small before and I feel as if one side is back to the size I was pre-op. My doctor said how great he thinks my chest looks but I'm not so sure. He said if I lose some weight, (I'm now around 130-135lbs at 5'5) my chest will get even flatter. I'm trying very hard to lose weight in hopes that this will change but I'm worried I'll need another surgery. I'm wondering what some of the others who have had surgery think...and any advice you have for me - both are greatly appreciated :)

I believe you probably just have swelling. Usually swelling can take up to a few months to actually clear up. My one side is larger than the other but it's starting to slowly go down.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

yeah, hoping that's just the case!

honestly i had my surgery in march and my left side was swollen for a good few months before it went down (like 2 months) but your chest looks great. it doesn't even really look swollen just like pecs really.

hmm ok - perhaps I'm just being very impatient lol...even with the weight loss I'm forcing myself to not step on a scale because if I don't see myself immediately dropping weight, I'll feel as if all my efforts are fruitless, as irrational as that sounds. thanks for your input and remarks :)

I think your chest looks pretty masculine...and by the look of your photo, weight loss may be difficult, since it appears that you do not have much to lose.  Perhaps what you are seeing is just some swelling.  It takes some time for things to settle into a new normal, and it helps to build some pec muscle for defining and shaping.  Give it some time before stressing out.  And I hate to be 'that guy', ...but try not to obsess about losing weight...it can lead to more problems than it is worth.  As long as you are active and eating well, your body will find its own optimum weight.

Just saw the pictures and I didn't see them when I first responded.
Your chest looks awesome! I don't think you need to worry about it, it looks like swelling to me so it will go down soon. I would start working out when you can. Do push ups and all that good stuff and start building the muscle to fill it out some more.
I'm guessing you had keyhole? It looks really good!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

hey thanks for your responses everyone! sorry for the late reply. I think I envisioned myself being flat as a slip of paper. I haven't seen many male chests but recently, I've been paying attention to men at the train station, around campus, etc and notice what I have been oblivious to.

As for the weight loss, every doctor I visit mentions the need for weight loss and "hitting the gym," stressing exercise and a change of diet. I believe I have indeed lost some weight since my surgery. Most of my body looks thin except for my stomach. I started college at 108 and at my heaviest was 140. In undergrad I ate terribly and hardly ever exercised. I'm entering my second year of grad school in the fall and am trying to exercise daily now. I've cut out soda and alcohol almost entirely. I'll have some maybe 1x/month. If you have any tips for filling my chest out in a positive way, please let me know. I haven't ever been to a gym but have been faithfully googling routines, many of which I do not know if are actually effective lol.

push ups and pull ups will help you build your chest. It sounds like you're on a great road for recovery. You can probably check out sites like Beefheads (FTM owned) or look on google for FTM fitness. I use FTM fitness for some basic routines. Your chest will fill out though in time :)

I think your chest looks great.  Try to keep in mind that post-op swelling can take months, upwards to a year, to settle.

I'm glad it's starting to look better for ya! I'll be 10 weeks post op on Tuesday and I still have a little bit of swelling on my right side. I still have some sutures that are hanging out and I have one that is going out of my scar and into the skin below. I tried cutting it but it was too sore. I have a lot of creasing around my areas but I just keep putting cocoa butter on it and massaging it. I also use Scar Away strips when I'm active and that seems to help my scars a bit too. I have a keloid scar on my swollen side and it's in the middle of my chest. It kind of looks bad ass :p
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

I'm glad to see you're feeling better about your results because your chest looks amazing!!
I understand what you mean about expecting to be as flat as paper, I had to spend a lot of time just googling make chests to make sure mine was looking alright ;)

wow, that looks great to me. I had to go back and search for the very slight swelling.  Men can have some pretty pronounced chests, I am hoping I am NOT flat because it feel like I have all this manly muscle hiding under boobs and I want to show it off ;D But how tall are you?  because you look super skinny already in an awesome way!  It has been years since I have seen 140

Be warned that muscle building may dramatically increase your weight.  Muscle is way denser than aft, so you want that to happen.  I lost a few inches off my waistline and butt after upping my T dose and exercising more and still gained 15 lbs!  If i didn't know it was going to muscle I would have worried XD
You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.
