So I've been post op almost 4 weeks now from my top surgery. I'm still getting so tired during the day. I end up dosing off for about 20-30 minutes maybe like 2 times throughout the day. At night I can't sleep either and don't fall asleep until like 3am lol (I feel so out of it throughout the day even after getting a few hours of sleep). I was on ambien after my surgery but I'm not on it anymore. I'm wondering if that more than likely messed up my schedule on top of the body just trying to heal. I was used to getting up at 5:00AM almost everyday for work *sigh*

Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to get back on a normal schedule? How long did this happen for?
Any insight would be much appreciated :)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

For my first week post-op I was basically just taking extended naps - get up, do some stuff, go to the bathroom, have a snack, drink some water, back to sleep, repeat 10x or so throughout the day. I really didn't have a bedtime or a wake-up time for that week. I took the ambien around 9pm usually to try to sleep through the night, but my roommate wakes up for work at 3:30, so that's around when I'd wake up and start taking naps.

After drain removal, I went into work the next day at 9 and after that, went back to my 5am wake ups. It was rough, but I just forced myself to do it. If I felt like I needed it, I would take a nap when I got home for about an hour or so.

If you're not working yet I'd not worry about. Just sleep and wake whenever you feel like it. I've done that for years.

Went back to work after that?? Trooper haha!

Yeah I'm trying to not worry about it now but I'm dreading it, I kind of liked being out of work for 6 weeks

I didn't have much of a choice. Start-up life is rough haha

It won't be so bad. Just set multiple alarms around the same time to make sure you actually get up. And don't hit snooze!

Well there might be still some chemicals to be flushed out...
you might drink enough water... maybe make a few fruit smoothies...
and eat healthy... possibly organic...

maybe cutting on high sugar drinks...

and maybe a bit of regular exercise... taking a walk for a few minutes...

well its ok to take a nap if you feel like it... but its normal that you are not that tired at night then...

hugs

Thanks for the responses!

I was eating really well, worked out also cut soda out of my diet (there are occasions when I do drink it). The surgery just kind of left me depressed because I can't do much of anything and my job is pretty physical. I guess when I get back to work (week and a half) i'll be back to normal when I get back into my routine
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.
