How much feeling/numbness?

I am contemplating some "light" FFS, probably as early as next year. I'm not sure yet what I'm getting, but I do see a few problem areas such as my brow and chin.

One of my biggest fears about FFS is that you lose feeling in parts of your face. How common is this and is it possible to fully recover the feeling in your face? Being numb in my face would drive me crazy, I think.

Hey kate
I had my FFS on june 20th so today is my 26th day post op. Im still wearing the tight bandages around my head and the numbness around my forhead area and on top of my head does not bother me at all not one bit except maybe for the little ich i may get not often (hopefully it stays like that). Now my mouth area is a different storey especially under my bottom lip, it is all numb down to the very bottom of my chin so when i talk i look like i had a stoke as my mouth looks really strange when it moves! Its still very swallon around my mouth area and its the only part of my face that looks swallon. The numbness around this area is okay i dont mind it all it feels weird when i touch it but that about it i guess
Hope this helps

Thanks Danni. I kind of expect that during recovery, and I could live with that. But long term? I know there is no guarantee about anything but it would scare me to have most of my face numb in the long term.

Hello iKate,

I had FFS 25th of June, 2015-20 days ago. I had a lot of work done with my forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose and addams-epple. Except from some numbness at the top of my head due to cutting of nerves when making the incision at the hairline, I have only minor issues.
There is stille some svelling at the forehead over the nose and a bit on both sides(minor numbness, just some minor swelling around the eyes(good sensation), some minor numbness/loss of sensation on the left side of the nose and almost no numbness on my addams-apple. Anyway, what you experience after surgery also largely depends on your preparation and what surgeon you choose to do the surgery-in addition to what kind of procedures you have carried out.
Hopefully this helps you.

All the best,

Jannicke

Danielle,

What you are describing sounds pretty much like motoric nerve injury. Have you talked to your doctor about it? What is he saying?

One of my main worries re FFS was numbness and paralysis following surgery.

Last Wednesday I had Forehead type 3, nose job,  lip lift,  genioplasty with advancement, Jaw reshaping and reduction, Tracheal shave all done by the FT.

I am very pleased and I must say a little surprised that I have NO numbness/paralysis temporary or otherwise anywhere. I am as swollen as hell but that will take time to go.

Very,  very pleased that there is no apparent (maybe some will come later but I doubt it)  numbness/paralysis.
