I've been watching Scott on B&B since the whole Maya storyline started....I just love him!!! He brings a realness to the show and an amazing wisdom. I was astounded how openly he was able to dialogue with other characters despite their own issues and whatnots...I never expected any of the characters to 'shut up' and listen to him, but they did and he was brilliant.
By the same token, I wish they would just give the Emmy to Karla Mosley for her portrayal of Maya. I realize she's not an actual transwoman, but she's given speech to the thoughts/feelings/etc that many of us have struggled with...do you tell, do you not, when do you tell, how...and her family's negative reaction when she first transitioned. Ms. Mosley can portray an entire gamut of emotions with just a bit of body language and the tiniest change in her facial expression.
I realize some people would be dissatisfied that a non-trans person was portraying a trans character, but I truly believe Ms. Mosley has brought the topic of trans to the forefront of everyday life...and the entire storyline has been done with amazing compassion and insight. It's really been the first time on television I've seen a 'relatable' transgender character...someone who strived to achieve her true identity, despite a horrible upbringing--and yet turned out to be strong, independent and a genuinely loving and open person. The entire story has been cathartic for me--living kinda vicariously through her--getting to see my own kinda-similar experience brought to the television screen. Lovely!
And Scott has just made it that much better. He's so easy to get along with--all the time he's on screen, it's easy and not tense or 'weird'...He's been an amazing and welcome addition to the B&B family!
