I'm not sure if I saw this anywhere else or not so I'll ask...any suggestions on alternatives to premarin vag cream?
The smell is gawdawful...literally 'pregnant mare urine'....ewww:(
I tried Estrace cream but it didn't do anything but be white and oozy...I notice way way more results with the premarin. I hate it though because it's glumpy and needs to be douched away all the time, plus no matter how clean you keep things, it seeps into your body and leaves your nether-region in a constant state of horse-funk :(lol
I was going to try the e-string or whatever it is, but my gyno said it wasn't good enough--she suggested sticking with the vag creams...but I was wondering if maybe there was one not available in the US that I could order that would work?

I took Permarin in pill form almost the entire time I was on hormones. As for vag cream, I used it for a while post surgical and as I wasn't engaged in sex, I let it go by the way side. After all these years I finally figured out what that yellow stain in my underwear is - it's self lubrication because I used that stuff so many years ago. You bumped my memory and that was one of the reasons I used pads all the time to keep that stuff off my underwear.

As far as a replacement, that stuff has been around 33 year or more so it must be good and I suspect has little competition.

Yea I do think the results of Premarin cream are excellent...much better than Estrace cream...it's just they're both sooo inconvenient you know? I'm constantly having to clean and spruce things up down there lol. It does work great for self lube and plumping tissue, and I can see/feel things pruning up when I stop for long periods. It's just having to clean out the residue and maintain ph and flora...it's a lot of work.
I guess unless they come up with something new, I'll stick with the Premarin.
Ty for the input:)

I've not really heard much about this cream before. What's it for? Is it just another form of HRT like tablets or injections, or does it do something else as well?

As january indicated it's somewhat nasty and greasy. You use it a while after surgery in order to convert the skin inside your vagina to vagina tissue. Properly used you will even be able to self lubricate. It is applied topically in order to put a higher level of hormones where they are needed without altering the levels in your system much. If you intend on using you vagina for sex after surgery, it is a must have part of the care.

Maybe the estrogen content in premarin is higher.

There might be the possibility of a compounded cream by recipe from a doc, made by a compounding pharmacy, with higher estrogen content.

Premarin was useful in its days.
But nowadays bioidentical estrogen is available, with less components being not identical with the human body (and thus no side effects from those).

Like KittenPower said...it's about the animals for me too. I hate that it's based on using animals. I would love to switch back to the Estrace cream but it's soooo expensive, and I have other meds I need that are also Tier 3.

(I don't think it's a "must have" for *everyone,* though... or at least I'm doing fine and self-lubricating well at 3 years post-op without using it, and so are quite a few people on this forum. It's a useful thing for people who need it, including cis women, but between the animals and the apparent "side effects" I think I'm grateful I don't need it. Enough expensive meds for me as it is, as someone just said. :) )
