I wish I could have been there. I've been a Culture Club and Boy George fan since 1982. I've met Boy George twice, both in the year 1995 when he was on his book and concert tour. He and my ex wife, a trans woman, presented him with a black t-shirt that read, "transsexual menace". George told us he had a friend who was transitioning and he said she will love the shirt. He was really sweet to us both.
I'll be seeing Culture Club in concert on Monday, August 10th. Can't wait. Boy George had a profound affect on my life. Through him I discovered my own sexuality and gender identity. He was one of many pioneers who helped pave the road for us. He often refers to himself as, George/Georgina, or Gina for short. He once said he considered transitioning when he was in his 20s, but it was his large, physical frame that kept him from going through gender reassignment. George continues to use male pronouns but on occasion he refers to himself as she.
