It really depends. It can mean nothing, it can mean that people can't figure You out, or it can mean that people You are particularly dealing with dont have the habit to "sir" or "miss" other people...
And stressing over it is really bad idea cause You can't get into people's minds.

One of my closest friends who is a retail manager was told you should never say "hello sir" or etc.

Say hi, try to get a name, but don't refer to gender unless you have to.
Yes! I'm single
And you'll have to be pretty f'ing amazing to change that

I work retail and I don't say sir or ma'am unless they are older people and then not always, most often use their name since I know most that come into the store.

a more perplexing problem to me is what in the world is a child thinking when their radar locks on you and wont let go.

The first time I ever remember being sir'd in person was when I was in my 30s.
So, based on my experience, it's not uncommon to not be sir'd.

I've gotten the sir since I was twenty one. If it was someone I knew I always told them please don't call me sir it makes me feel old. As a rule of thumb the only time I use sir or ma'am is towards my superiors or older people.
